Species: BERTRANDITE Locality: N. Sugarloaf Mtn., Bethlehem, NH Specimen Size: 6 mm specimen. Bertrandite on quartz crystal. Field Collected: Bob Janules Catalog No.: A Bob Janules specimen Notes: A stack of 54 images through Meiji scope. A larger specimen with a lot to get into focus. I made two attempts. Not a particularly satisfying result. |

Species: BERTRANDITE Locality: Government Pit ? Moat Mtn., Albany, NH Specimen Size: 1.2 mm bertrandite crystal, partially embedded in microcline. A typical rectangular-tabular bertrandite habit. Field Collected: Leroy Grant Catalog No.: u2271 Notes: Overall 2 cm specimen has typical Moat Mt, smoky quartz and microcline crystals. Found in Leroy Grant egg carton with many small, loose smoky quartz crystals. Photo with Canon T3i, with Nikon Plan 10 microscope objective. |

Species: BERTRANDITE Locality: Water Pocket Locality, Albany, NH Specimen Size: 1.5 mm field of view Field Collected: Bob Wilken Catalog No.: A Matt Butler specimen photo and PLM images Notes: Matt reported: "The PLM interference figure image 'best matches' an acute biaxial figure. In this case only the lower right part of it is in the view of my scope at 63x so we can only see one of the 'bullseyes' instead of both. The 2nd image is with a full wave plate filter inserted, and it shows the color change to blue at the bottom of the "bullseye" confirming the xl is optically negative which also matches bertrandite." |

Species: BERTRANDITE Locality: New Hampshire Specimen Size: 6 mm field of view. Field Collected: B. Gilker - 1980's Catalog No.: u099 Notes: The Gilkers were an older couple that lived in Amherst, NH for many yeras. They were members of the Nashua Mineral Society to which I also belonged. When they moved away (1992), they invited me to their home to see if I wanted any of the material they were leaving behind. I saw little that I wanted, but did spot a feldspar chunk with many micro bertrandite crystals, (in the house roof drip-line area). Unfortunately, they did not recall where they had found it, but were quite certain that it was from one of their New Hampshire collecting trips. These are quite nice for NH bertrandites. A good example of the importance of recording where your specimens were collected. The granular material on the crystals is bonded to the bertrandite. There appears to be some green mineral included in this, perhaps epidote. |

Species: BERTRANDITE Locality: Beauregard Mine, Alstead, NH Specimen Size: 1.5 mm field of view. Horizontally oriented clear bertrandite prisms. Field Collected: Tom Mortimer Catalog No.: u1444 Notes: At the Beauregard Mine bertrandite is found in highly altered beryl crystals. Big crystal collectors usually reject these. Often these crude, brown-tan crystals have to be broken open to expose the micro bertrandite. |
